A Collaborative Effort to Transform Healthcare in Utah
Salt Lake City – Today, the One Utah Health Collaborative, in partnership with Gov. Spencer Cox, officially announced the adoption of the Utah Model of Care at the Utah State Capitol. This innovative model, developed through nearly a year of statewide collaboration, represents a significant step toward creating a healthcare system that is affordable, high-quality, and trusted for all Utahns.
The Collaborative and its Stakeholder Community Board co-created the Utah Model of Care to address the state’s unique healthcare needs. Rooted in the priorities of affordable, high-quality, and trusted care, the Model outlines a vision for an ideal future healthcare system through seven integral attributes. Healthcare should be accessible, efficient, person-centered, prevention-oriented, equipped with an optimal workforce, reward outcomes, and transparent. Innovation surrounds and enhances the priorities and attributes, acting as a driving force that ensures continuous improvement and adaptability within the healthcare system.
“The Utah Model of Care is the result of true partnership, bringing together government, healthcare leaders, and citizens,” Gov. Spencer Cox said. “By working together, we’re creating a healthcare system that is both innovative and responsive to the needs of all Utahns.”
“We are grateful to stand with Governor Cox in announcing the adoption of the Utah Model of Care,” said James Wissler, Executive Director of the One Utah Health Collaborative. “This model is the product of extensive research, interviews, and collaboration across the healthcare landscape. It represents the collective effort of stakeholder executives who are committed to changing the trajectory of healthcare in Utah for the long term. By aligning our goals and working together, we’ve laid the foundation for a system that will deliver real, lasting improvements for all Utahns.”
Innovation will be key in bringing this model to life. To transform healthcare, Utah’s leaders must continually seek new ways to address complex challenges. From integrating advanced technologies to rethinking care delivery and workforce strategies, innovation is critical to ensuring the Model evolves and adapts to meet the changing needs of our communities.
By fostering creativity and collaboration across sectors, we can create a healthcare system that is efficient and more responsive to Utahns. To view the Utah Model of Care final report, click here. A toolkit for the Model with additional resources, can also be accessed here.
About the One Utah Health Collaborative:
In 2022, Gov. Spencer Cox launched the One Utah Health Collaborative (the Collaborative), a community-owned 501(c)(3) nonprofit, to improve the trajectory of healthcare in the state. With a 15-year initiative aimed at building an affordable, high-quality, and trusted healthcare system, the Collaborative developed the Utah Model of Care through research and collaboration. Now serving as the steward of the Model, the Collaborative focuses on three key roles: aligning the community by uniting stakeholders to pursue a better health system, identifying opportunities through research and analysis, and accelerating innovation to scale solutions that improve health outcomes across Utah.
